My thoughts behind "Share our Roads" campaign

It is 2.30am in the morning. We were just finished a long night of confirming many things and trying our best to close the best deals that we could with limited budget getting the maximum production done on the campaign memorabilias. It was so tiring afterwork non stop running here and there just with the core three of us trying to visit as many potential sponsors as possible to try our best to make the up coming event the best that we could bring to all participants, just because of one thing to make us all so determine and focus, that was the love the passion about the true essence of cycling.

Cycling is not just a sport but a sport which can make you healthy and able to connect with people. You have to interact with people around you when you cycle. But only through organizing an event which makes the bond to your cycling buddies much stronger and made me learn a lot from both of them.

I am able to learn to negotiate better with more emotional intelligence involve into my skills. I am able to learn from a good sales personnel how to pitch for a better deal, how to talk smoother and not to be too fast too direct.

I am able to learn how to systematically deal with authorities and government bodies plus government agencies which sometimes are very tedious and time consuming.

Thank you lord for giving me such brothers to learn and excel from. I am fast dynamic and able to think of many ideas in many ways. I thought my public relations skills should be fine but well I have so much room for improvement. I thought I am humble but I am quite egoistic indeed. Thank you lord for giving me some very thoughtful helpful and understanding brothers.

I was in the shower thinking what has happened throughout these few months, many reflections and a voice keep asking me why? Why keep doing this? Why make yourself so tired? Wasted so much of your energy for what? Someone outside really care or not? Then I answer myself, I don't know about the others, but for sure me and my brothers, we truly cares a lot. What we are planning and executing is not just simply for ourselves now but also for the future generations of many Cyclists too, not just in Malaysia, but the impact could be far from what we could imagine, all start from a small group of people all having the same passion, the passion for cycling in a safe environment, to share our roads with all road users.

Share our Roads is a campaign which unites all cyclists, all shop owners, all bicycle dealers suppliers and Road Transport Authorities. Everyone should take up a part as their own responsibility to contribute to the same goal - towards a safer better cycling environment for everyone to share our roads. If everyone is just saying, not my business, start to question what can we do in such a small scale with limited funding etc. If we do not change our mind set and keep thinking like that, nothing could have accomplished at all. Remember Rome doesn't create in one day! All start from scratch and gradually build up and accumulate more.

All of us simply envy in foreign countries how much safer, nicer to cycle there, with so much facilities cater for cyclists, so much law enforcement to ensure the safety of cyclists etc. why not start to do something to make this happen for all of us too here in Malaysia? I am from Hong Kong, I started to learn cycling here in Malaysia, I fell in love for this country and I wanted to make this happen for us here in Malaysia to enjoy our roads shared by every road user. I am doing my little part with my brothers, so are you ready to contribute yours too?

Technology make the news spread fast. You might not even expect that the world is watching us too. So make our "Share our Roads" Campaign count as a Global Influencial event campaign and make our voices known through our Picture Petition counts through your images, make your voices count through the upcoming Ride of Silence Event to honor our fallen cyclists and make sure our safety awareness message are going to be heard worldwide !

It's 3am now so Good night you all and may our God bless us all, Ride Happy, Ride Safe.

What so Special about Cycling to you?

After so many accidents and near misses happened on the road, why do people still take up cycling as their hobby? Wouldn’t the gruesome accident pictures involving your fellow cyclists freak you out enough already? Wouldn’t the rudeness and ruthlessness from drivers scare you more than enough already? WHY? WHY are we still cycling on the road? Wouldn’t it be silly when you know your friends have died abruptly and suddenly during cycling to be able to deter you to get out from cycling and get into somewhat “Safer” sport?

Transition during Xterra

This is Elaine Kar Yan, a.k.a. Sunny Bunny. I will give you my views and hope this article could be an interesting interactive piece for everyone to contribute your views beneath mine.

Waiting at the starting line.

Cycling is a great sport to engage in, it keeps you fit , healthy and become more socially adapt to get to know more friends and people from all walks of lives.

Cycling is such a wonderful Social Sport =) knowing all walks of lives.

Cycling is my transformation journey which makes me relate to what is happening in life – the ups and downs. From the start of learning cycling at the age of 30, the part of trying, and nonstop trying, I fell, then I got up and do again, it’s like what is happening in life. Once I grasp the balancing, and started my cycling journey, then I have to take up the next Cleat skills on road bike, then countless fell and getting up and re-do again till I am able to do so. The cycle keep on going as next is learning stage was MTB – MTB Cleats – more fine tuning of skills etc. etc. till now the mission is to bring out the message of “Share Our Roads” for more people to feel safer to engage in this sport. I believe there are much more challenges installed ahead for me as long as I keep on pedaling.

Cycling is unique in a sense that it took me to many places. I am a social / leisure cyclists (sports girl) which I do not chase the podium placing so much. I always value highly on my journey, the people I met, the places I am at and have been to, the food and drinks, the scenic views, the nonstop of so much greeneries. This is the Malaysia – Truly Asia which I saw from my eyes after I started cycling here.

Training session during Langkawi Ironman Race 2010

Cycling open up my mind, my eyes of seeing the world. When I am on my Roadie or Mountie, the world seems so different. I am more in tune with my surroundings. I felt I am part of the earth which I live in. This is a sport which you can use as a mode of transport as it has zero carbon emission and my vision for our future to be able to still stay on planet earth instead of moving to Mars, we have to all go back to use cycling as our mode of transport and limit the use of automobiles and planes. Mother Earth needs us to save and we need more bicycle lanes, laws and regulations to ensure cycling is a sport which is safe enough for more people to engage in.

I treasure cycling and my cycling skills a lot, I never took it for granted as I do not have the privilege to own a bicycle and learn the skills when I was at a younger age. I learn the skills and own the bicycles while being in Malaysia, I never looked back even till our close cycling buddies died in front of us in the news. These news only strengthen up my mission to bring the “Share Our Roads” message out to as many people as possible and to create the impact so big that Government and authorities to take actions to ensure a safer place for all of us to engage in the sport.

When I first started cycling during my first Ipoh Century Ride 2008

I admire Malaysia Government trying to create many cycling events to promote the sport and even Tourism Malaysia is trying to promote Malaysia Cycling Tourism. But if during cycling races, cars can simply barge into the racing area to hit national cyclists, our cyclists got hit and harassed on the road, no awareness and proper planned education programs initiated by Government to ensure safety of cyclists, then how to promote cycling and cycling tourism further?

“Share Our Road” message is a MUST for everyone to spread out as much as possible as these are the immediate actions which we all must do.  Keep Support / Snap & Post your pictures onto facebook. I believe as “A picture speaks a thousand words; let our voices all be heard.” Remember only having a safer environment then only cycling as a sport, cycling tourism and cycling industry will flourish. I have pledged to support “Share Our Roads”, have you? Now is your turn to answer the question posted - What so SPECIAL about CYCLING to you?

I Pledge to support "Share Our Roads"

In Sports & Food; we truly UNITE.

Achieving REAL unity is always easy said than done. I realize many simply using the term or concept of UNITY to twist and turn to suit one’s personal / political / business agenda. To me, the simplest way to relate this UNITY concept is through two things: SPORTS & FOOD.

It is often through these two things that people regardless of gender, races, religion can truly unite as ONE whole identity. Through Sports and Food, people can actually share the joy of being able to finish a tough race and satisfying their adrenalin rush; share the joy of being able to devour the dishes and satisfying their taste buds. The feeling of being in the midst of it is really overwhelming.

If you are a sports person like me, you will agree that the BEST way for unity is been through a sports race, event then able to share the Good FOOD together should be the best. You are being rewarded with good food; you are rewarding your body with good food for your hard effort. So GOOD FOOD is often VERY IMPORTANT especially after each Hard Tough Sport Race / Event.

To all the Sports Event Organizers, please hear our voice here. Kindly take note that Good Food for reward and replenishment is very important to all participants, so do not simply ignore GOOD FOOD as one of the basic and CORE ELEMENT when organizing a Sports Race / Event. Thank you and we can all look forward to better GOOD FOOD to reward as after a Long Hard Tough Race / Event from now onwards.

SPORTS !!!

GOOD FOOD !!!

Only If we could really "Share the Road" ;```(

If we could all really "Share the Road", be responsible and courtesy, we could have avoided many nasty things to happen. This is such a sad morning to receive another bad news that we have lost another fellow cyclist / a loving husband / a caring father. Haven’t these happen not long ago to us? Actually around the world, many many cases happened everyday. Some countries even remember their lost ones with "Ghost Rider White Bicycle" to be in remembrance.

It seems not asking too much when you simply say "Share the Road". But actually how many people who truly care to take action about it? Let's see, many things and options we can do:

1) Simply give chase, drag the driver out, gave him/her a lesson, call police etc. -only creates hatefulness, problem? still unsolved.
2) Start shouting profanity, give driver the finger etc. - only creates hatefulness, problem? Still unsolved.
3) On the Bus “5m safety distance” advertising - well who cares how many meters as long as you don’t block my way!
4) Ride Happy Ride Safe, ride single file, or 2 by 2 in discipline way - you are blocking my way so MOVE, do you think I care?
5) Dress in shiny white safety blinky, wear protective helmet as blink as safe as we can be - well blink as you want, I WANT MY WAY! MOVE ASIDE!!!!
6) OK I gave up, am selling my Roadie!!! - GREAT, so I have the ROAD ALL BY MYSELF. Then don’t blame me for not having enough exercises, go back to your gym or whatever you think I care!!!

My apologies if I sounded Rude & Blunt. But this is a sad reality I seem to have perceived though my outdoor sporting years, hey mind you, mine's not that long, only 5 years in total. But there are just too many stories ended up with deaths and dreadful accidents simply because majority of people who JUST DON'T CARE!!!

In order to change people's attitude, unless is a miracle, a divine intervention by any of our GODs. If not then this takes Time & Proper Education. Rome doesn't create in One Day ok? So please do not expect people will even CHANGE at all no matter how many accidents happened everyday with how many lives lost.

Some cycling clubs resolved to have campaigns like "Campaign for a Lane" the idea is great, with proper bicycle lanes installed, but actually drivers STILL drove onto bicycle lanes! So do you think this is working at all even how many years now this great campaign seems to be going? To me, still much room for improvement.

Unless Government really truly cares about this concept of "Share the Road" with bicycle lanes installed, proper TV, cinemas continuous Educational Program with short clips to teach people "ON the ROAD Courtesy" still takes time to break into the heads of people. Police force really ensures the issuing of traffic safety summons when they spot drivers driving through bicycle lanes, I sincerely hope police force can start to ensure this, if not then why "Campaign for a Lane”? Is this just a Political Propaganda? Since election is coming up, so can they start to do something and carry on with it to not just only cover this period?

“Ride Happy, Ride Safe” – “Share the Road with Courtesy to Everyone” & God Bless. ---- by Sunny Bunny

(Start asking yourself, how many you want to put your fellow cyclists name onto these Ghost Rider Bicycles before you start to behave and practice the essence of “Share the Road” for everyone to enjoy? Remember do not simply React on your emotions, practice courtesy at all times)

BEST Out-Of-Office Notification

I am currently out of the office on vacation.

I know I’m supposed to say that I’ll have limited access to email and won’t be able to respond until I return — but that’s not true. My blackberry will be with me and I can respond if I need to. And I recognize that I’ll probably need to interrupt my vacation from time to time to deal with something urgent.
That said, I promised my wife that I am going to try to disconnect, get away and enjoy our vacation as much as possible. So, I’m going to experiment with something new. I’m going to leave the decision in your hands:
  • If your email truly is urgent and you need a response while I’m on vacation, please resend it to interruptyourvacation@[redacted].com and I’ll try to respond to it promptly.
  • If you think someone else at [the company] might be able to help you, feel free to email my assistant, and she’ll try to point you in the right direction.
· Otherwise, I’ll respond when I return…
Warm regards,

No One ASK for Your Opinion lah ...

Yes, you heard me and you heard this correctly as well. Not to worry, as I am a well mannered and educated person so this phrase will never come out of my mouth to anyone at all. I am simply quoting this phrase as my topic of the month only. So where does this RUDE testament coming from? Well guess what, it is actually coming from a Senior C-Level & above Management personnel to a staff during a board discussion meeting.

This is the first time I heard that management did not even care to act as if they are actually hearing their staff out. Simply just say to the staff that no one is asking for their opinion, management are just looking for YES man & YES women in the office which they do not like to be questioned and challenged during meetings, so everyone should just be present there and SHUT UP, just listen and say the magic word none other than YES !!!

You might ask so what about management such as Air Asia or Digi or any others which encourage their people to ask them questions, think out of the box, challenge management with new ideas etc. YES they still exist and these are the companies which can see positive growth in the company with many loyal people who will go the EXTRA Mile for them without management ASKING or FORCING them at all simply because they felt the management are – WORTH IT !!!

Respect from staff to management is earned than forced or demand. You can’t demand for it when you are not worth it in the first place. Have you ever looked yourself in the mirror, think about what you have said and done and put yourself into your employee’s shoes? NOPE, because you are a BOSS and you are so AUTOCRATIC that you do not need any constructive opinions and suggestions from your employees, what you need are just YES men and women.

Corporations who are ONLY interested to hire YES men and women, I wish them good luck in their future undertakings. People are resources in a company, capable people should be treated with respect and should be given a peaceful work place for them to think and help the business grow. People in different department and division need to contribute in their own professional ways towards the company’s goal. Directions and message should set clearly and communicate directly to people so all will have an understanding and willingness to work towards the goals which benefit the whole company.

Management who threaten their employees to produce, force people to do something against their will, delay salary payment, deny to contribute to EPF can only go so far. Come on we are into year 2011 already, do you think threatening works? You are just driving all your capable people away and who else remain? Eh…. Um… those YES men and women.

Management should value their people whom will suggest ideas to them as these people are willing to voice out ideas, concerns and willing to source for a solution to help with the business. Do you think it is easy to get employees like that? Nope, I don’t think so. The world has a lot of YES men and women and still there is business management out there who may act as if they are hearing their people out in which they are not and just wanted their people to shut up.

I congratulate those people who work for corporations which has management whom are sincere into hearing them out. Congratulate those corporations which they are able to hire capable personnel which voice out concerns, contribute ideas and offer solutions when encountering problems. I sincerely believe these people and corporations will go much further and faster in the coming future.

Oh, yes by the way; No One ASK for your Opinion lah …

Nyamuk Awas !!! Mosquitos BEWARE !!!

I really don’t know why I am so prone to attracting Nyamuks especially inside trails. Every time I will be screaming my lungs out and try to keep my hands waving to chase them away, but still not much use.
I had a two terrifying encounters with these nasty Nyamuks. Once when my friend took me into Putrajaya Park for cycling. That time I was still very new to Mountain Biking, don’t really know what to expect inside the trails. He guilded me into this MTB park and it was close to evening time, Oh there were just swamps and swamps of Mozzies all around us, he kept encourage me to keep on cycling then Mozzies will go away, but they just don’t !!! They kept following us and I saw they all stuck onto his jersey and still kept attacking us from all directions.
I was screaming to cycle out of this park and vow to never go back in there again. The second time I was cycling with his bunch of friends into Broga’s trail and it was still the rainy season and I didn’t expect there will be so much Mozzies inside. While we stopped to take a break, WOWWWW all the Mozzies just swamp in towards us and trying to have a feast on us. I was screaming and screaming again and was even doing the “Mozzie Dance” to dance and stomp them off and away from me.
From then on, I knew I had to invent something easy to bring into trails when I am cycling especially when it’s rainy season. Once I saw a guy who just tie the Fumakiller traditional mosquito coil onto his Camelpak but it just kept banging and banging when he’s cycling and the smell of the smoke wasn’t that appealing at all. I have a SPI Belt instead and I bought the Antimos Gel to tie onto the SPI belt, they looked like “Grenades” at far but it’s very useful, it smells nice also. I simply called it my favourite “Nyamok Awas Grenade Belt” they can last quite long also. I love my invention, what about yours? ;)
